Border Thirst: The Water Crisis for Sudanese Refugees

Save Lives with Clean Water – Sudan Refugee Crisis in Chad

Urgent Appeal: Help Provide Clean Water for Sudanese Refugees in Chad

Thousands of Sudanese refugees fleeing the conflict in Sudan have arrived in Chad and are living in camps and transit sites where access to safe, reliable water remains severely limited.

As water sources become depleted and emergency water deliveries prove insufficient to meet growing needs, families face serious risks to their health, dignity, and wellbeing.

For Sudan Organization, registered in Switzerland, is urgently raising funds to support sustainable water solutions for Sudanese refugees in Chad. The proposed infrastructure includes deep groundwater wells, high-capacity pumps, storage tanks, pipelines, water treatment systems, and community tap stands.

These systems are designed to provide reliable access to safe water while improving basic hygiene and reducing the risks associated with water scarcity.

Our National Organization in Sudan

As part of our broader humanitarian response, For Sudan Organization works with its national organization, For Sudan Charity, to strengthen locally led humanitarian action and field-level coordination.

For Sudan Charity is responsible for supporting the local coordination and implementation of projects on the ground in Sudan, including community engagement, coordination with relevant stakeholders, monitoring, and operational support.

For this regional humanitarian initiative, For Sudan Organization will also work with appropriate local and humanitarian partners in Chad to ensure that the proposed water infrastructure responds to the needs of refugee communities and is implemented responsibly and sustainably.

Major Camps in Need

  • Farchana Camp: approximately 40,000–50,000 people
  • Iridimi Camp: approximately 20,000–30,000 people
  • Treguine Camp: approximately 25,000–35,000 people
  • Adré Transit Camp: tens of thousands of people

Preferred Solution: Deep Groundwater Systems

We are seeking to develop sustainable groundwater infrastructure capable of serving large refugee communities.

Estimated costs for a complete system:

  • High-capacity boreholes: $100,000
  • Solar/diesel pumps: $40,000
  • Elevated storage tanks: $80,000
  • Water pipelines: $150,000
  • Community tap stands: $50,000
  • Water treatment: $30,000
  • Annual maintenance: approximately $25,000

Estimated cost of a complete water system for one camp: $475,000

Estimated annual maintenance: $25,000

Fundraising Goal: CHF 100,000

Our initial fundraising target is CHF 100,000. Your support will help us begin developing life-saving water infrastructure and move toward a complete, sustainable system for refugee communities.

Every contribution brings us closer:

  • CHF 100,000 – Support the drilling of a high-capacity borehole
  • CHF 200,000 – Support the installation of pumps and water storage tanks
  • CHF 475,000 – Support a complete water system for an entire camp

Your contribution can help provide clean, safe, and reliable water to thousands of people who have been forced to flee their homes.
